What now?

After Colorado’s 5-1 loss to the Nashville Predators on Thursday, Avalanche coach Joe Sacco said he hadn’t decided what moves the team would make in the wake of the news that Tomas Fleischmann will miss the rest of the season because of blood clots in his lungs.

The most obvious move would be to quickly bring winger TJ Galiardi, sent down to the Lake Erie Monsters on Wednesday, back to Colorado.

If it’s decided that the message-sending implicit in Galiardi’s demotion requires leaving him with Lake Erie for at least a short time, other possibilities for promotion include three players who have appeared in games for Colorado this season — Greg Mauldin, David Van der Gulik and Mark Olver. Galiardi had an assist for the Monsters as they won their fifth straight game Thursday night, 2-1 over the Rochester Americans.

Sacco said of losing Fleisch-mann: “Tomas was playing very well for us. He’s been a guy who had some production at very important times for us. He was very clutch for us in many games. We have other people who have to step in there and take advantage of an opportunity.”

Shuffling.

The Fleischmann diagnosis forced the Avs to insert winger David Koci, who had been scheduled to be a healthy scratch, into the lineup against Nashville.

Defenseman Matt Hunwick was the only healthy scratch.
