MANILA, Philippines — Police stepped up security at bus terminals, ports and airports today as officials suspected that Muslim militants could be behind a bus bombing that killed five people in the city’s bloodiest attack in six years.
Police director Nicanor Bartolome said investigators had recovered parts of a remotely detonated improvised bomb that resembles similar devices used by militants in the volatile southern Philippines, where minority Muslims have been fighting for self-rule for decades.
