Three goats and several chickens died Saturday morning when a shed filled with animals and hay caught fire near Peyton, The Gazette of Colorado Springs reports.
Firefighters from across eastern El Paso County helped six firefighters from the Peyton Fire Protection District and their embattled chief fight the blaze, which started shortly after 8:30 a.m. on 11675 Tracy Lane.
The fire was the Peyton Fire Protection District’s first test in fighting a blaze since its ranks were cut by a mass resignation last Tuesday when 10 firefighters turned in their badges.
