Auburn fans have scheduled a rally for the poisoned oak trees at Toomer’s Corner, where fans traditionally gather to celebrate big wins for the Tigers in the Alabama town. The “Toomer’s Tree Hug” set for today had nearly 8,000 confirmed guests on Facebook on Friday. Police charged Alabama Crimson Tide fan Harvey Almorn Updyke Jr., 62, with first-degree criminal mischief Thursday for allegedly poisoning the oaks. The Facebook page for the rally says “the hugs should be reserved for other members of the Auburn family who need a shoulder in this painful time.”
