DENVER—A federal agency is investigating a collision between a full-size biplane and a radio-controlled model plane at a private airport outside Denver last year.
A preliminary National Transportation Safety Board report released last week says the biplane landed safely and no one was injured.
The report doesn’t assign responsibility. A final report on the probable cause isn’t expected for weeks or months.
The biplane’s left wings were damaged. The model was destroyed.
The NTSB says the model plane was hovering vertically, nose-up, at a radio-controlled aircraft show at the Van-aire Estates Airport in Brighton. The report says the biplane pilot had aborted a landing attempt and was preparing to circle for another attempt at the time of the collision.
The report doesn’t say how high either aircraft was.
