David Hayes has been raising bison and selling bison products since 1976.
But he can’t remember when the industry has been quite as crazy as it’s been in the past couple of years. For example, Hayes, who owns and operates the Spomer Ranch and Red Barn Bison Co. between Greeley and Milliken, said bison burger meat is demanding $10 a pound in some locations.
It’s so crazy, he added, that he no longer supplies bison meat to two restaurants he used to because he can’t meet the demand, and he quit selling meat on the Internet for the same reason.
