Several local animal adoption agencies expect to receive 81 pets confiscated from an Arizona animal hoarder, who previously lived in Colorado.

The dogs and cats arriving in Denver tonight were among 239 animals found in “deplorable conditions” on a 40-acre eastern Arizona property of 86-year-old Mary Port.

Port closed the Colorado Animal Refuge in Elbert County nearly two years ago and left the state, according to the Dumb Friends League.

Records show Port lived on Elbert County Road 34 in Simla until June 2009, when she relocated to Saint Johns, Ariz.

She now faces animal-cruelty charges in Arizona stemming from a March 23 raid at her Arizona home.

The Dumb Friends League is set to receive 32 dogs, the Humane Society of Boulder Valley will adopt out 12 dogs and six cats. The Longmont Humane Society will get three dogs, the Larimer Humane Society eight dogs, and the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region hopes to adopt out 20 dogs, according to a media release.

Some of the pets will be available for adoption next week, but others might need behavior training first, the Dumb Friends League stated.
