An annual Denver fundraiser benefiting multiple sclerosis research and support programs set record numbers last week, organizers said.

The 23rd Walk MS Denver drew 8,000 walkers and raised nearly $1 million, said Carrie Nolan, president of the Colorado-Wyoming Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Nolan said all of the money benefits programs and multiple sclerosis patients in Colorado and Wyoming.

“This is an outstanding accomplishment,” said Nolan. “Walk MS Denver is always a day of hope, inspiration, celebration and community, but this year was truly remarkable in so many ways.”

The debilitating neurological disease affects about 88,000 people in Colorado and Wyoming, and more than 2.4 million worldwide, Nolan said.

The group hopes to raise $1.57 million overall in May, Nolan said.
