PARKER, Colo.—The solar power installation company SolarCity says it has hired 21 employees for its new operations center in Parker, Colo., bringing its local workforce to about 70 employees.

San Mateo, Calif.-based SolarCity has about 1,100 employees around the country.

Eric Wittenberg of SolarCity says Colorado’s 300 days of sunshine and a requirement that larger companies get 30 percent of their energy from renewable sources by 2020 make it a great market for solar. The state’s largest utility, Xcel Energy Inc., expects to meet that threshold next year.

Wittenberg says that means Xcel may moderate the incentives it offers customers for adding solar power, but he says the industry is trying to move to a place where it doesn’t need incentives to stimulate demand.
