DENVER—A federal grand jury is investigating the practices of Denver-based kidney-dialysis firm DaVita.

Chief executive Kent Thiry said Wednesday it appears the grand jury investigation in Colorado overlaps with an investigation that began in 2005 with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Missouri, particularly on allegations that DaVita entered into improper relationships with pharmaceutical companies and physicians.

Thiry says the company is comfortable with its business practices and has a track record of compliance.

The Denver Post reports () the Missouri investigation had also looked into allegations that DaVita overused the anemia drug Epogen and then billed the government for it.
