Four-time Champions Tour winner R.W. Eaks shot a final-round 6-under-par 66 to win the HealthOne Colorado Senior Open at Green Valley Ranch on Friday in Denver. The Colorado Springs native finished with a three-round total of 15-under 201.

Jim Kane of Edmond, Okla., finished second at 207. Perry Holmes of Denver and Bob Niger of El Dorado Hills, Calif., tied for third at 209. Low-amateur honors went to University of Denver men’s golf coach Eric Hoos, who closed with a 4-under 68 to finish at 212.

Record crowd sees Rams roar back.

After dropping the opening two sets, the 15th-ranked Colorado State volleyball team battled back to upset fifth-ranked Nebraska 3-2 (12-25, 11-25, 25-17, 25-20, 15-9) in front of a record crowd at Moby Arena in Fort Collins. Senior opposite hitter Katelyn Steffan recorded a team-high 13 kills, and junior middle blocker Megan Plourde had nine kills and eight blocks.

CSU broke its own program and Mountain West attendance record with 6,750 fans. The previous record was set Aug. 26, 2010, vs. Duke (6,333). Nebraska’s No. 5 ranking was the third-highest ranked team to ever play at Moby Arena. With the win, CSU is now 24-11 against ranked teams at Moby Arena under coach Tom Hilbert. The win over a No. 5-ranked team is tied for the highest ranked team CSU has ever beaten on its home court (tied with No. 5 BYU, Nov. 1, 1997).

Volleyball: UNC defeats Texas-Pan American.

The Northern Colorado volleyball team defeated Texas- Pan American 3-0 (25-8, 25-19, 25-10) in opening-round play at the Baylor Classic in Waco, Texas.

Grode’s hat trick lifts Roadrunners.

Metro State’s Scott Grode recorded his first career hat trick, leading the Roadrunners men’s soccer team to a season-opening 8-1 victory over visiting Upper Iowa.
