Denver’s autumn heat was too much for six people who waited for hours to hear President Obama this afternoon.
As temperatures rose into the mid-80s, some people who had been waiting at Abraham Lincoln High School began to wilt. One person was rushed to Denver Health Medical Center with a heat-related illness, said a hospital spokesman.
Others merely sweated out the wait in the afternoon sunshine.
People had started arriving for tickets at early as 7 a.m. Obama spoke to a crowd of hundreds at 2:30 p.m.
The heat was nearly 10 degrees warmer than normal for the date, but about 8 degrees below the record high of 92 set on Sept. 27, 1953.
After two days in the 80s, a cool-down is on the way, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures could reach only the upper 60s in Denver Wednesday.
