Despite Alex White’s latest tough outing in a 7-0 loss to San Francisco on Tuesday night, it was a good day for 2012 for the Rockies. Juan Nicasio is riding a stationary bike, running in a pool and doing range-of-motion exercises for his neck. Jorge De La Rosa, four months removed from elbow surgery, has begun playing catch. White, meanwhile, remains a work in progress. He threw three wild pitches and allowed three runs on six hits, including his 12th home run allowed in 36 1/3 innings.
Red faces.
Conor Gillaspie’s inside-the-park home run was as exhausting as it was embarrassing. Gillaspie slipped going around third and still made it home safely as Ty Wigginton missed the cutoff man and catcher Wilin Rosario dropped the throw on the tag at home.
First and long.
If the last three weeks are any indication, Todd Helton’s ultimate retirement will be jarring defensively. Helton is returning, but in his absence this month, first base has been an adventure. Jordan Pacheco is getting a crash course. He made better plays Tuesday, but White dropped a throw for an error.
