GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Police in Kansas are looking for a fugitive who escaped while he was being transferred to Grand Junction.
Authorities say 33-year-old Dartanin Mitchell stole a transport vehicle in Topeka, Kansas, when the driver stopped at a gas station to use the restroom on Wednesday.
Mesa County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Heather Benjamin tells the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel () the sheriff’s office was notified of the escape by Kansas authorities Wednesday night.
Authorities say Mitchell was wanted in Mesa County on burglary and theft charges.
