A Centennial family is making a strong plea to the burglars who entered their home Tuesday: They are asking the intruders to return the ashes of a recently passed family member.

Along with computers and a camera, the family says burglars may have inadvertently stolen the remains of Mary Jane Crutchfield, who passed in August.

Her ashes were inside a simple black box on top of a bedroom closet shelf.

Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson says the burglars may have used a similar tactic at various houses around the southern metro area. They ring the doorbell and kick the door in if no one is home.
