BRECKENRIDGE, Colo.—The bond amount for a Breckenridge lawyer accused of stealing at least $500,000 from his clients and then fleeing has been raised.
Bond for Royal “Scoop” Daniel initially was set at $150,000. On Friday, a judge signed an order setting a $500,000 cash or surety bond after the case was moved to district court. The judge also issued a gag order.
Daniel is due back in court Monday to be advised of theft and bribery charges against him.
Daniel disappeared in 2007. Within two weeks, police obtained a warrant for Daniel’s arrest after clients said he owed them money. He was arrested last week as he tried to cross into California from Mexico.
Daniel has said the missing money is in a bank.
