DENVER—The Regional Transportation District board has approved moving forward with a plan to redevelop Denver’s Union Station as a hotel on the upper floors.
The Denver Post reports ( ) the board voted 14-0 Tuesday, with one abstention, to give RTD ? general manager Phil Washington authority to negotiate with Union Station Alliance on completing the project.
A board committee had voted earlier to recommend that the full board support Union Station Alliance’s proposal.
A competing proposal by Union Station Neighborhood Co. would have had offices and mechanical systems on the upper floors of Union Station.
Denver’s Landmark Preservation Commission still needs to sign off on the project. The National Park Service also would have to approve if the project is to qualify for $7.5 million in funding.
