
Denver police continue their search for a former standout long-distance runner at the University of Colorado and high school cross-country coach after he did not appear in Denver District Court for a scheduled hearing on Wednesday.
Oscar Alejandro Ponce, 34, was charged with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and one count of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust with a pattern of abuse on Dec. 20, according to the Denver DA’s office.
Prosecutors allege Ponce subjected a 17-year-old female student at Abraham Lincoln High School — where he coached the boys and girls cross country teams — to sexual contact several times between December 2010 and May 2011.
