The International Robot Olympiad, which pits teams of the world’s top robotics students in a four-day competition, will be hosted by Denver in December of 2013.

The event, scheduled for the Colorado Convention Center, features over 1,000 students displaying technical, artistic and creative talents. It will be held in North America for the first time in its 15-year history.

Participants compete in more than a dozen different competitions that culminate in the Robot Dance, in which robots designed by the various teams tell stories through dance. The event also features cultural activities and an educational symposium.

Denver’s bid for the competition was backed by Colorado-based Ameribotics (), a non-profit organization that seeks to introduce educators and students to robotics, as well as the tourism office Visit Denver and Gov. John Hickenlooper, Sen. Michael Bennet and state Sen. Michael Johnston.
