DENVER—Denver police may be forced to put their horse patrol out to pasture because of budget cuts.

In June, the city said it is considering eliminating the patrol as part of a plan to cut about $8 million from the budget.

According to the Denver Post ( ), former Mayor John Hickenlooper kept the program in the 2004 budget after a public outcry. The program was scaled back to six horses and three officers from nine horses and six officers the year before.
