FORT CARSON, Colo.—A combat engineer at Fort Carson has been arrested and charged in the slaying of a food operations specialist in the barracks at the Army post.

Military authorities say they arrested 40-year-old Sgt. Vincinte L. Jackson on suspicion of premeditated murder and murder of 28-year-old Brandy Fonteneaux of Houston. Authorities found Fonteneaux’s body in the barracks where she lived on Jan. 8.

Charging documents say Fonteneaux died from being choked and stabbed with a knife sometime between Jan. 6 and Jan. 8, when she was found.

Jackson is with the 576th Engineer Company, 4th Engineer Battalion. Officials say they cannot release additional information, including a home town, because of the charges.

Jackson has been in military custody since Jan. 20.
