Senior Mark Matthews led the University of Denver men’s lacrosse team (2-1) with three goals and two assists to become DU’s leading career Division I goal scorer in the Pioneers’ 21-8 win over Robert Morris (3-1) in the second game of the DU Face-Off Classic on Sunday at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
Matthews surpassed DU associate head coach Matt Brown’s 113 goals for most Division I scores by a Pioneer. The Ontario product has 116 for his career.
• Air Force (1-2) defeated Michigan (0-4) 15-6 in the first game. The Falcons were fueled by a 9-0 run in the opening half.
Keith Dreyer tallied a game-high seven points for the Falcons, registering three goals and four assists.
Former prep star wins 800 meters. Former Colorado high school state track champion Kelsey Williamson took first in the women’s 800 meters in 2 minutes, 8.52 seconds Saturday at the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque.
The ThunderRidge graduate also was a part of UNLV’s 1,600-meter relay team that finished first.
