PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo.—The Air and Space Museum at Peterson Air Force Base has placed another name in its Medal of Honor display.

The museum added Chief Master Sgt. Richard L. Etchberger to its Medal of Honor wall on Tuesday.

He was fatally wounded in Laos in 1968. He was originally awarded the Air Force Cross, which was upgraded to the Medal of Honor in 2010.

Etchberger was a ground radar superintendent when he and his crew were attacked. He defended the radar station and called in air support, getting two wounded survivors hoisted into a hovering helicopter.

He was hit by enemy fire while he was being hoisted into the aircraft and died from his wounds.

The museum’s display honors all Air Force personnel who have been awarded the Medal of Honor.
