T-Mobile said today it is closing a call center in Thornton that employs 441 workers.

The closure, to take place by the end of June, is part of a nationwide consolidation in which seven call centers will be closed.

T-Mobile said affected employees will have the opportunity to transfer to 17 remaining call centers. In Colorado, the telecom firm also has a customer-service center in Colorado Springs.

Other centers to be closed are in Allentown, Penn.; Fort Lauderdale; Frisco and Brownsville, Texas; Lenexa, Kan. and Redmond, Ore.

The facilities to be closed employ a total of 3,300 workers. The remaining call centers will add about 1,400 jobs.

Employees not transferring to other facilities will be offered severance pay, job coaching and two months of paid health insurance.
