Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested earlier this week in the shooting of 18-year-old De’Quan Walker Smith.
Mannie Legrand, 20, is being charged with first-degree murder after deliberation and first-degree murder with extreme indefference, both are felonies.
The charges allege that on March 19, at about 2:40 p.m., Legrand shot and killed Walker-Smith near the intersection of 29th Avenue and Franklin Street, just blocks from Manual High School.
Legrand is being held without bond and will make his first court appearance on Monday.
Court records show Legrand already had a warrant for a parole violation in November 2010.
Legrand had been released from prison on parole after he was sentenced to serve four years for a felony burglary case from August 2009.
