RENO, Nev.—A 26-year-old Navy veteran who was among the Colorado movie theater shooting victims is being remembered for his kind, giving nature.

Jonathan Blunk is receiving a full military funeral Friday morning in Reno.

Blunk died after throwing himself in front of a friend and telling her to stay down when a gunman opened fire, killing 12 people and wounding 58.

He’s a 2004 graduate of Reno’s Hug High School who most recently lived in Aurora, Colo. Blunk served three tours in the Middle East from 2004 to 2009, and planned to re-enlist in the Navy with a goal of becoming a Navy SEAL.

Among those expected to attend the funeral are his estranged wife Chantel, their 4-year-old daughter, Hailey, and their 2-year-old son Maximus.
