DENVER—A federal judge has dismissed an election watchdog group’s lawsuit against the Colorado secretary of state and county clerks in Boulder, Eagle and Chaffee counties.
Citizen Center filed the lawsuit to stop Boulder County from printing ballots with distinguishing numbers and bar codes. Eagle and Chaffee counties have similar procedures. The group was concerned a ballot could be tracked to an individual voter, revealing how the person voted.
The Daily Camera reports ( ) a federal judge ruled Friday there is no federal constitutional right to a completely anonymous ballot and noted election workers see ballots. State law forbids election workers from revealing how someone voted.
Citizen Center President Marilyn Marks says she’ll consult with attorneys on whether to appeal in federal court or pursue the case in state courts.
