GOLDEN, Colo.—A 17-year-old charged as an adult in the kidnapping and killing a 10-year-old Westminster girl is now being held in the Jefferson County jail.

Austin Sigg of Westminster was moved there from a juvenile detention facility on Tuesday after a judge ordered the transfer.

The state’s juvenile justice system wanted Sigg moved because he was held in an isolation cell that wasn’t meant for long-term stays. He didn’t cause any problems but officials said his presence was a drain on resources.

Sigg will be prosecuted as an adult. His attorneys had indicated they wanted to try to move his case to juvenile court but ultimately didn’t.

Prosecutors say he confessed to kidnapping and killing Jessica Ridgeway on her way to school as well as attacking a jogger earlier.
