BRIGHTON, Colo.—The Adams County assessor has pleaded no contest to a charge of official misconduct stemming from appraisals of warehouses of a top campaign contributor.

Gil Reyes received a deferred sentence Wednesday. His case will be dismissed if he doesn’t commit any criminal offenses in the next year.

Reyes was accused of having the appraised values of nine warehouses owned by Majestic Realty Co. lowered, saving the company more than $800,000 on property taxes. Majestic Realty had contributed to Reyes’ campaigns. A state board later ordered that the properties be reassessed.

Reyes says the prosecution was politically motivated.

In 2011, Reyes pleaded guilty to failing to report gifts of sports tickets he received from Majestic Realty’s vice president. He was fined $300 plus $217 in court costs.
