United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the world’s top diplomat, and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock will address graduate and undergraduate students at commencement ceremonies for the University of Denver.
Ban Ki-moon, who will receive an honorary doctorate of public service, will address graduate students on June 7 at 4:30 p.m. Ban became the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations on Jan. 1, 2007. In June 2011, he was unanimously re-elected by the General Assembly and will serve until Dec. 31, 2016.
Ban received a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Seoul National University in 1970. In 1985, he earned a master’s degree in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
A strong advocate for sustainable development, Ban has strived to mobilize world leaders and the global public around such pressing challenges as eradicating poverty and hunger, advancing global health, addressing climate change, strengthening peacekeeping and conflict prevention and empowering the world’s women and young people.
Hancock will address undergraduates on June 8 at 9:30 a.m. He also will receive an honorary doctorate of public service.
Both ceremonies will take place in Magness Arena on campus.
