GOLDEN, Colo.—Jefferson County authorities are investigating after the death of a 55-year-old man who was making suicidal threats and appeared to be on drugs.

The sheriff’s office says in a written statement that officers were called to a home in Conifer on Sunday morning and found the man carrying a BB gun. Deputies say they used a stun gun when he refused their orders.

The man, whom sheriff’s officials identified Monday as Guy Guthrie of the Pine area, began having difficulty breathing as he was being taken to a patrol car. He was pronounced dead at the scene after medical personnel attempted CPR.

The coroner’s office is trying to determine the cause of death.
