ASPEN, Colo.—One the most expensive real estate deals in Pitkin County’s history has closed with the $41 million sale of the Jigsaw Ranch on the backside of Aspen Mountain after it was broken up into two parcels.

Jigsaw Ranch’s sale price trails only the $46 million sale of the Mandalay Ranch property in Owl Creek in 2004, according to Tim Estin, a broker with Coldwell Banker Mason Morse.

The Jigsaw sale matches how much hedge fund magnate John Paulson paid last year for Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan’s Hala Ranch in the Starwood subdivision.

According to the Aspen Daily News ( ), the upper estate has a 12,200-square-foot residence with six bedrooms and six baths. The lower estate has a 5,700-square-foot home, along with a 1,200-square-foot guest house and a log cabin.

The identity of the buyers, who were represented by Aspen real estate agent Dale Potvin, is unclear. He declined comment.

Across the ranch’s four homes, there are 12 bedrooms and 15 bathrooms. The two fireplaces in the main residence on the upper parcel alone are valued at about $89,000, and it has a nearly $49,000 home theater and a $29,000 Jacuzzi, according to county assessor records.

The main home on the lower property is located on Castle Creek and has four bedrooms and four baths. It is accessed by a $41,300 bridge.
