DURANGO, Colo.—Protesters say rowdy inner-tubers and rafters could be a problem if Durango builds a boat ramp on the Animas River.
Former La Plata County Commissioner Wally White said Thursday he never would have voted to support a state grant application for the funding of the city’s property acquisition if he had known about the potential for a boat ramp for commercial rafting.
The Durango Herald reports ( ) residents are worried about trespassers and people partying on the riverside property.
Commercial outfitters say they are being unfairly criticized because they provide Durango with a $20 million industry and most of their clients are peaceful.
