A video of Boulder’s Mark Changaris playing Tears For Fears’ “Mad World” in a flooded Boulder home has gone viral, gaining 136,822 YouTube plays and coverage on , CNN and a number of other news outlets.
Water dripping from a railing, the floor washed-out and covered in debris, Changaris plays the emotional, ballad version of the ’80s track.
Our favorite part about the video, though, is that it appears Tears for Fears co-founder Curt Smith commented on the YouTube video and said, “The most poignant use of ‘Mad World’ I’ve seen.”
Changaris about the experience:
“It’s a beautiful piano, and it’s been a part of my life for the past few years,” Changaris told NPR. “I guess in some sense I was saying goodbye. In another sense, it felt good to play, to just be in the moment and let the rest of the craziness drop off. It also helped make me feel more normal, that in the face of something so outwardly bizarre, something old and familiar could warm up the place.”
