Commerce City Police arrested three people suspected in a shooting late Sunday after their car became stuck on a set of railroad tracks and they ran.
Those in custody — a woman and two men — were involved in a shooting near a soccer field just west of Gala Gardens, police said. Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 8300 block of Rosemary Street and saw a black Toyota sedan speed off east on East 84th Avenue.
The driver veered off the road and tried to drive over the railroad tracks near the 8400 block of Highway 2 but became stuck. All three people then got out of the car and ran, just before a Burlington Northern train came down the tracks and hit the empty car.
Officers quickly found the trio, and also the 9mm handgun they believe was used in the shooting. Police don’t know whether anyone was hurt in that incident, which remains under investigation.
