Denver Zoo lion cubs were given pumpkins Wednesday in an early Halloween celebration, the zoo said in a news release.

Sango and Sabi played with the gourds in the yard at Predator Ridge exhibit. Sango is a 1-year-old male who came from a zoo in Texas in July. The zoo said the pumpkin outing was one of his first outings after a quarantine period.

Sabi is a 1-year-old female who .

“Zookeepers describe both cubs as curious and playful,” the release said, “but … Sango is often shy in new situations and tends to follow the lead of the extremely outgoing Sabi. He is learning quickly from her, though and becomes more confident every day.”

The lions aren’t the only animals getting into the spirit of the season. On Thursday, elephants at the Toyota Elephant Passage exhibit will receive two giant pumpkins at 11:30 a.m. Enthusiast Brian Deevy donated the two, which weigh around 400 and 500 pounds each, the zoo said.
