The New Year is right around the corner, and that often means resolutions.

According to a study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology last year, 45 percent of Americans make promises to themselves on the first day of every year, but only 8 percent are successful at sticking with them. Losing weight is No. 1, with staying fit and getting healthy near the top of the list, as well.

The ColoradoFit team would like to help you Resolve to be Resilient, instead: Get ready for 2014 by focusing on becoming stronger in mind, body and spirit so you can be better equipped to set and reach your goals.

We’re prepared to help you do just that, starting with a free fitness-themed community event with the team Jan. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. in The Denver Post auditorium.

Who are the members of the Colorado-Fit team? They’re the fitness professionals we turn to for information and inspiration, and they offer their expertise at on a regular basis — on everything from why burpees should be banned to avoiding holiday weight gain to the best exercises for baby boomers.

They come from a variety of backgrounds and areas of focus. Trainer and is a fourth-degree black belt in Taekwondo. Personal trainer owns and is a LiveWell Colorado ambassador. Personal trainer and owner , known as “Coach Stacy,” is the Colorado coordinator for the . Psychologist and wellness coach Denise McGuire works at the . Holistic physical therapist f is a running coach and sports-movement specialist. Trainer is a wellness coach who specializes in small-group training. co-owns . ; you can catch her Nutrition Coach segments on Daybreak, Channel 2/KWGN on Friday mornings.

Some of the topics we’ll cover that night include how to cope with personal challenges and come up with a plan for getting healthy; taking care of yourself first; dealing with friends and family who seem to be sabotaging your goals; and tips for relaxing so that everything else can fall into place.

The first 50 who sign up at will get a gift bag with Bailey’s book “Eating Simply,” along with other fitness items, and everyone will get healthy snacks from GoodnessKnows. There will be prize giveaways that evening, too, including exercise DVDs from R-U-A Pro Fitness and a $100 gift certificate for massage treatments from Elevated Health Massage.
