A late-night, armed standoff in Aurora ended Monday after police found a man dead from an apparent suicide.
Officers were called to a home on the 11400 block of East Ellsworth Avenue about 8:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a domestic incident between a man and a woman, according to Sgt. Chris Amsler.
The woman was able to leave the home but the man refused and was said to be armed with a handgun.
Several patrol units were on scene attempting to make contact with the man and end the standoff, Amsler said, adding that police had set a containment in the area.
Officers approached the home about 10 p.m. and found a man — believed to be the suspect in the domestic incident — dead in the backyard, Amsler said.
