COLORADO SPRINGS — A hardy group of climbers finished their annual New Year’s Eve trek up Pikes Peak on Wednesday.

Some 25 members of the AdAmAn Club along with about a dozen guests reached the top of the fourteener in frigid conditions late Tuesday afternoon.

At midnight, they were scheduled to set off fireworks that can be seen along the Front Range and Eastern Plains and hopefully will be able to see fireworks from communities below. Wind chill readings at the top of the mountain could drop to 19 below zero.

The group, founded in 1922, is named after its practice of adding a man to its ranks each year. Club members have reached the summit every year except 2012, when bad weather forced them to turn back at tree line.
