Justin Hoffman got back into the Aurora football game in a big way on Wednesday, when he was announced as head coach at Rangeview.

Aurora has been the 40-year-old’s theme and constant — it’s where he resides, he graduated from Aurora Central in 1992, he is currently teaching social studies at Aurora Central, he coached the city’s Gateway from 2007-2012, he was head coach at nearby Smoky Hill in 2013 and he was a volunteer assistant a year ago at Rangeview.

“Man, I’m pretty pumped up,” Hoffman said. “It’s great news and an honor to be a part of Raider Nation.”

Hoffman relieves Dave Gonzales, who was unceremoniously fired a day before schools went on holiday break in December after a productive 12-year run that included winning his program’s previous 36 league games.

“I just hope to pass on the great tradition Coach Gonzales had,” Hoffman said.

Two years ago, Hoffman headed Smoky Hill and the Buffaloes went 2-8. However, leading into the start of practice for the 2014 season, he was fired because of applying for a job out of the Cherry Creek Schools District.

Hoffman’s Gateway teams were 28-32, including 0-9 in his first year.
