Getting your player ready...

If Peyton Manning plays quarterback for the Broncos in 2015, it will be excruciatingly sad to watch a prideful player’s skills further erode. If Manning stays healthy, of course he will help Denver win some games, and people will say he looks good. But if Father Time shows up at midseason, John Elway and the coaches will never sit him. Now that would be truly painful.

Nick, knows Father Time undefeated

Kiz: That Manning wants to play football in 2015 isn’t the real question. The issue is how often he will play like a $19 million quarterback. Of course the Broncos want him back, but wouldn’t it be wise for Elway to ask Manning to play at a discounted price? Get inside the numbers and a smart football man would conclude it’s unlikely Manning can consistently play at an elite level. A pay cut of $5 million or so could help shore up a shaky offensive line, which might be money well spent by a 39-year-old quarterback.

Big men on campus. Kiz, I know your schtick is to create controversy, but you are so far overboard on the Rocky Mountain Showdown, it’s ridiculous. The sheep are building a new stadium in Fort Collins at great costs. Use the darn thing. I would support the continuation of a home-and-home series between Colorado and Colorado State but only if it’s played on campus. I hate the game in Sports Authority Field at Mile High, a site that has all the ambiance of a dump.

John, quick with a quip

Kiz: Nicely done. You managed to insult a CSU team that thumped CU in 2014 and the home field of the Broncos in a manner of seconds. But here’s what this knucklehead thinks: Buffs athletic director Rick George would actually like to end the series, and he instigated the on-campus argument to blow up the relationship.

Shape up, Avs. The reason the Avs are having so much difficulty this year is their young stars are out of shape. I have yet to see the Avs put together three periods of solid hockey. Gabe Landeskog was a real power forward last year; now a gentle nudge seems to knock him off the puck. And Nathan MacKinnon, although still very quick, seems to have lost a step.

John, representing the 303

Kiz: Know what causes us to scratch our noggins at Kickin’ It Headquarters? The Nuggets have no stars, yet Brian Shaw is cursed by fans for poor coaching. The Avalanche is blessed with immensely talented forwards, yet coach Patrick Roy skates without criticism for a power play that looks as if it’s made up on the fly.

Ouch on over/under. And today’s parting shot could make any baseball lover want to head directly to the party deck at Coors Field to drown his sorrows.

The over/under in Las Vegas for the Rockies’ season-win total is 70.5. That means a record of 71-91 would be a winner on the over. It’s going to be a looong summer.

Matt, weary of bad baseball
