GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Trevor Moore scored two goals and got the only goal in a three-player shootout as No. 9 Denver rallied to earn a 3-3 overtime tie with second-ranked North Dakota on Saturday in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.

“We’re a very resilient team, and we showed that here this evening,” DU acting coach Dave Carle said.

Moore atoned for an early major penalty that led to two North Dakota power-play goals and a 2-0 first-period deficit.

UND led 3-1 after two periods, but Moore and Tariq Hammond scored to send the game to overtime. Moore also scored in the second period for the Pioneers (16-10-2, 9-8-1-1).

Denver goalie Evan Cowley made 35 saves. He stopped Michael Parks, Luke Johnson and Drake Caggiula in the shootout.

Caggiula scored in the third period to give UND (20-6-3, 11-5-2-0) a 3-1 lead. Keaton Thompson and Nick Mattson scored in the first period for second-ranked North Dakota, which is tied with Nebraska Omaha for the lead in the NCHC.

The shootout goal gave the Pioneers an extra point in the NCHC standings.
