Two teenagers have been arrested as suspects in the destruction of a St. Francis of Assisi statute outside a Denver church.

The pair, 16 and 17, face four felonies, according to a Denver Police Department tweet. They face charges of criminal mischief, burglary, possession of an incendiary device and bias-motivated crime.

The night at St. Francis of Assisi Polish National Catholic Church, 556 S. Jersey St.

The acts, including the statue being smashed by a hammer, were caught on security cameras. The suspects also broke some bird statues and a security light.

The names of the suspects were not released.

The church has been the scene of crimes before. A statue of St. Francis was stolen from the church in 2010, and a replacement statue was damaged in 2012.

On Saturday, the church is scheduled to celebrate its annual “Blessing of the Animals.” St. Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals.
