FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — A man who caused a crash near Fort Collins that killed one of his passengers has been sentenced to six years in prison.
The Coloradoan reported Tuesday (http://goo.gl/g6GjmT ) that 52-year-old Nathaniel Holt was sentenced for the June death of 47-year-old Samuel Vasquez.
Prosecutors say Holt was smoking marijuana and drinking when he was turned down by a 20-year-old woman he was trying to flirt with at his home. He then began swinging a knife and forced Vasquez and the woman into his vehicle, driving erratically in an apparent attempt to scare them. His SUV slid off the road and rolled onto its roof.
Holt told investigators a moose or elk ran in front of the SUV, forcing him to swerve. He later pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and felony menacing.
