PHILADELPHIA — David Dahl, the Rockies prospect who was hospitalized Thursday after a nasty collision in the outfield during a Double-A game, had emergency spleen surgery and probably will miss the rest of the season.

“It was a bad one,” Rockies manager Walt Weiss said Friday, referring to the collision. “It was one of those balls that was in no-man’s land. The infielder was going at it hard; he had a shot at it. The center fielder is coming in hard. Neither one of them knows if they can catch it, so they keep going.”

Dahl, playing center field for the New Britain (Conn.) Rock Cats, collided with second baseman Juan Ciriaco on a flyball to shallow center. Dahl walked off the field after the collision but was taken to a hospital.

“Doing a lot better today,” Dahl wrote on Twitter. “Was a fluke incident but God has a plan for me. Minor set back for a major come back.”

Dahl was the 10th pick of the 2012 draft. After spending time with the Rockies at spring training this year, Dahl was assigned to New Britain for his first Double-A season.

Rockies assistant general manager Zach Wilson said there is no timeline for Dahl’s return to game action.

Dickerson update. Co- rey Dickerson (plantar fasciitis in his left foot) had on-field batting practice Friday for the first time since going on the 15-day disabled list May 19. He said he is targeting Tuesday as the start of his rehab assignment.

All in the family. With Rockies owner Dick Monfort in attendance Thursday, the Single-A Ashe- ville Tourists played through two benches-clearing fights and four ejections to beat the Augusta GreenJackets 7-3.

Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado has a brother, Jonah Arenado, who plays for Augusta and a cousin, Josh Fuentes, who plays for Asheville. Nick Groke, The Denver Post
