Lisa Flores made a formal announcement to supporters Thursday night that she is running for a seat on the school board for Denver Public Schools.

Flores, who is currently a senior program officer for the Gates Family Foundation, is running for northwest Denver’s District 5 seat where current board member Arturo Jimenez is term limited.

Three of district’s seven board seats are up for election this November, including the District 1 seat and an at-large seat. In those two, current members are eligible to run again.

The outcome of this school board election would not overtake the reform-minded majority currently on the school board. In past elections, the and those more closely aligned with teacher’s unions, has attracted .

The first campaign finance reports for this election cycle will be due in October.

Here’s what we know for now…

Board member Anne Rowe, representing southeast Denver’s District 1, has filed to run for re-election.

In District 5, state records show one other hopeful, Michael Kiley, has lined up to run against Flores.

, a software company that has received DPS contracts for software and training. Kiley has told The Denver Post in the past that his work is mostly focused on healthcare systems. Kiley also ran for an at-large seat on the DPS school board in 2013.

Kiley is a parent of a student at Skinner Middle School and a student at Edison Elementary School.

Flores has worked as a senior program officer for the Gates foundation since 2006 leading work on education, “with particular emphasis on direct school investing, expansion of high-performing charter and autonomous school options and early childhood education,” according to the foundation’s website.

Flores also served as senior staff member for John Hickenlooper when he was Denver mayor.
