Re: “Highway fund needs honest fix,” May 31 editorial.

I was excited to read your editorial about how to solve the highway funding situation — until I read action plan No. 1 — increase taxes. A predictable liberal response! My suggestion: Letap identify and root out waste in current allocated funds. No doubt that 20 to 30 percent of current expenditures are waste and add no value.

A clear example of the difference between liberals and conservatives.

Your editorial on reforming the federal Highway Trust Fund omits the most needed reform: an end to the practice of withholding funds from the states in order to bully them into passing laws they do not wish to pass. A sort of highway robbery, as it were.
