On July 1, Sprint will take over Colorado’s Telecommunication Relay Services , which enables people with hearing, sight and speech disabilities to communicate on the phone.
Affected residents can dial 711 at any time to use the service via a special text telephone and third-party operator, according to the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, which administers the service. Captioned telephone calls are increasing for those who are hard of hearing, according to the commission.
AT&T, which previously held the contract, has exited the niche. Sprint’s contract goes through June 30, 2018. Sprint said that when it takes over, Colorado residents also will have access to , which provides a transcript of meetings comment by comment.
