One resident of an apartment building and three police officers were taken to a hospital after a two-alarm fire erupted Wednesday morning in Thornton.

Sabrina Iacovetta, a spokeswoman for the city’s fire department, said the blaze at 9650 Huron St. was extinguished about 8:30 a.m.

North Metro Fire Rescue and Federal Heights Fire Department also responded to the blaze.

Only one unit — which belongs to the injured resident — was damaged in the blaze.

The three officers injured were hurt while responding to the fire. An update on their condition was not immediately available.

Residents of the building have been taken to North Huron Christian Church.

The Red Cross says it assisted 45 people from 12 families who were displaced by the blaze. They have since been allowed to return.

“We don’t know the cause as of yet,” Iacovetta said.
