Re: Lead level in water at Arvada pre-school far exceeds federal limit, April 16 news story.

According to The Denver Post, the city of Arvada said its municipal water supply is absolutely safe. The key word in that statement is supply.

Like Flint, Mich., Arvada has a supply of safe drinking water, but it is the delivery system that matters most when considering the source of high lead levels. Arvada assured its citizens that it maintains pH levels to prevent water from being corrosive and drawing out lead from pipes. So why is there a high lead level in this Head Start building s drinking water?

Maybe we don t live in Arvada or Flint, but the quality of the drinking water in those cities should still be at the top of our list of major concerns. We may not be drinking their water, but their plight is but a canary in the mine.
